The U.S. State Department's English Access Microscholarship Program provides a foundation of English language skills to non-elite, 13 - 20 year old students worldwide through afterschool classes and intensive summer learning activities. Access students gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and gain the ability to compete for and participate in future U.S. exchange and study programs. Since its inception in 2004, approximately 70,000 students in more than 70 countries have participated in the Access Program.
The Program began in Morocco in 2003 and it was established in Oujda in 2005. The first promotion 2005/2006 were 25 students, the second promotion 2006/2008 were 35 students, third promotion 2007/2009 were 40 students, the fourth promotion 2008/2010 were 20 students and the fifth promotion 2009/2011 were 25 students.
